Empowering Tomorrow's Puerto Rican/Hispanic Leaders

We're thrilled to share the exciting highlights from this year's Puerto Rican/Hispanic Youth Leadership Institute (PR/HYLI) weekend that took place on March 8th-11th in Albany, New York! This annual event brings together young leaders from diverse backgrounds to discuss, debate, and advocate for issues impacting the Hispanic community. This year¡¯s theme was ¡°The Art of Democracy¡±.

WNY students from Jamestown, Dunkirk and Buffalo City School District traveled to Albany to showcase their passion, eloquence, and dedication as they engaged in spirited debates on bills addressing a range of critical topics. From education reform to immigration, they tackled pressing issues with thoughtfulness and determination, demonstrating their commitment to creating positive change.

Students embarked on an enriching journey to the New York State Museum, immersing themselves in a diverse array of workshops. The day's events were kickstarted by an inspiring keynote address delivered by acclaimed graphic novel author, Julio Anta.   We're especially proud to announce that six of our outstanding WNY students were awarded scholarships. These scholarships serve as a testament to their hard work and dedication to serving their communities.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to all who supported this empowering event, including our sponsors, volunteers, and community partners. Together, we're nurturing the next generation of Hispanic leaders and amplifying their voices for a brighter future. Let's continue to celebrate the success of our youth leaders and support their ongoing efforts to make a positive impact in our communities and beyond.
